Leerie time in PE

This time of the year the Leerie starts to shoal around river mouths and harbours. The drop at the PE harbour is one of my spots where I get a few each year. After a fresh west and the swell in the by has dropped, you will find them early in the mornings. Have a look out for the raps and live bait from the fishermen.

Cold water diving.

The past two months we had East after East with not much diving. We had a bit of a West and back to East. We I just had to jump in. Myself and Llewellyn jumped in but our marks were off. The first thing I do is to check the anckor. There were thousands of Root Oog in the water. As I settled next to the anchor I saw the stump in front of me but it was out of reach and my gun was pointing to the side. The fish turned away from me giving me time to change gun direction. The fish turned back to me coming in a bit closer but still to far to hit. The fish turned away form me a second time and with my free hand I puled myself hard closer to the fish. As the fish started to turn around my spear went in behind the pectorial fin exiting on the side of the head. The Stump is a flat fish and it has a large blind spot from the back. I used this to gain distance closer to the fish. Its not a big fish, only 3,2kg but but a nice fish if there is no other fish due to the 14 degree water.
